Nia Rachel Lloyd: Cardiff, United Kingdom; NIA LLOYD is a Cardiff based Welsh designer, launching her debut collection after graduating from the University of Glamorgan with a BA [HONS] in Fashion Design. Inspirations for NIA LLOYD always stem from splendid landscapes, historic architecture and a controlled nature concept. Identities expressing this ethos will be symmetry, colour palettes on the cusp of right and wrong and 3D manipulations creating the abstract feel and an attitude of forbidden. TROPICAL MODERNISM is all about experimenting with shapes on the body, seam lines, and in this particular case through the style of a square. Inspirations came from artworks by Geoffrey Bawa and David Hockney. With Bawa’s architectural garden masterpieces and Hockney’s surreal approach, this collection brings modern and tradition together creating a look of a tropical renaissance garden. Cubic shoulders and 3D manipulated squares dominate throughout, showcasing an innovative method of design to express and flatter the feminine silhouette. Hand-made necklaces complete each of the 5 looks. Inspired by traditional sri-lankan dress, these chunky accessories bring the tropical into the modernism.
